So, I'm accidentally an Event Organizer? : The Things I Learned (Part 2)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

-Helen Keller

I just arrived from a Convention consisting of students - the NCMC MAS AMiCUS Convention 2018. It was a fulfilling event! I praise God for really making it possible. Amidst all the odds, the event was truly blessed with all the miracles He bestowed. I felt so happy on how He united the team and on how He made our hearts delightful while working.

I was an accidental leader? Or No. I was called by God to be a leader. I'm not the President but I believe we are all called to lead others and to be lead by His grace.

During the said convention, I worked as one of the Program Coordinators and Publication Officer. I supervised people and it was challenging. With the more or less 150 delegates, one can truly surrender to God this stunning task.

So, here is the part 2 of the things I learned as Event Organizer.

5. In, planning, begin early.

In order to avoid the rush of meeting deadlines, begin planning early (yes!). If it's a big event, plan months before the event. We actually started planning for the event in December (that was 4 months ago). We started with objectives, the program framework, then the venue. The budget actually followed. Well, in this case, it's a church-related event, so, we have to take some leap of faith. It wasn't a perfect event for the took a pause in the middle of that four-month planning. But to tell you, planning ahead of time is worth it.

6. Division of Labor is a Must!

Together we stand, divided we fall - that's an old adage supporting the idea of unity. However, unity doesn't mean you will do the same thing together. It simply means that amidst the diverse tasks that you have to finish, you will work in harmony with each other.

The president's role is to delegate tasks and manage the team. As you break up your team and assigned tasks, don't forget to keep track. Set deadlines. Share expectations. If your task is related to your co-worker, work together. Do not focus too much on yourself. Check on how your talents can help accomplish others tasks. It's a give, give, give process.

7. Open Communication Please

A week before the convention, we agreed to be online often as much as we can and to have "load" for SMS. We agreed to remove all bitterness in our hearts and surrender it to the LORD. We're all students wholly depending on our parents' income and God's grace! This was really a challenge. But when you commit everything to Him, He will untangle all the tangles and let your hearts work and communicate with love.

You have a minor grammatical mistake in the following sentence:

I supervised people which was challenging.
It should be people who instead of people which.
