The evolution of a cycle tourist, part 1

in #travel7 years ago

It all began when the doc told me I had high blood pressure, which brought about some life changes.

I bought a nice used bicycle and started riding everyday.

I found riding the bicycle so much fun I decided to try out going on a cycling journey.
So I added a rack, homemade fenders and some bags..

The first journey was to go to northern Thailand and live in a buddhist Temple for a month.
I live in the south ot Thailand so the journey was quite long (about 2000kms) so I used buses and trains to get to Chiang Mai.

I got a ticket for the night train from Chumpon to Bangkok.
While waiting, I explored Chumpon some.

Taking a bicycle with you on Thailand trains is easy and cheap.
Along the way I would meet other cyclists on much longer and more adventurous journeys.
My mind was slowly expanding to the possibilities

End of part 1

Stay tuned for part 2 and the temple stay in Fang, Thailand
Cheers.

What are brand of bike are your riding?

That first bike was just a basic Specialized, 29er hardtail mountain bike. (Which shows how you don't need anything fancy to get out there and travel)

Since then I have evolved bicycles several times; the folding Brompton, Surly Long Haul Trucker, and the most recent a Surly World Troller.

Just read over this whole series talk about undervalued posts. No worries though, Dude, the comments section can take off without notice. :)-~
