An architectural masterpiece: GUM Shopping Mall - Moscow

We all go shopping, but for sure, not all of us have the chance to enjoy shopping in such a beautiful and historical building.

The Moscow GUM shopping mall is definitely an impressive location not only because it hosts high level brands, but mostly due to its magnificent architecture.

Located on the Eastern side of the Red Square, the imposing building will definitely catch your eye. Step inside and you will be amazed.

The diameter of the roof is of 14m and it was designed to support snowfall accumulation.

Catherine II of Russia commissioned Giacomo Quarenghi, an Italian architect, to design a huge trade center. The existing structure was built to replace the previous trading rows which got destroyed after the Moscow Fire from 1812. In 1917, when the Russian Revolution started, the trade center hosted more than 1,200 stores.

At the beginning of the 20th century, it was one of the most imposing buildings in the city.

Currently, you can by almost everything you can possibly think about - from grocery(ground floor) up to luxury products. Try to go to each floor as the perspective over the building is continuously changing. You can also enjoy a nice cup of cappuccino on the upper floors.

You shouldn't miss this location while visiting Moscow. Even if you are not buying anything from the stores, you will enjoy some wonderful views.

If you like shopping, there is a similar place, located right across Bolshoi Theater which is called TsUM. I didn't get the chance to enter, but it looks very impressive from outside.
