Things you need to know before traveling to Brazil.

in #travel6 years ago

Brazil is a popular place for tourists, mainly because of its nature and its spectacular landscapes. But you need to know a few things before you travel to the land of Samba.

In Brazil people speak Portuguese, respect that.

This seems obvious, but the tourists don't understand it. Brazil is a continental country, with more than 200 million people, where Portuguese is the official language. Here people don't need to speak English like in Europe, where countries are small and need a "universal language". But yes, there are many people who speak English, but not in the proportions of Europe. So don't angry if you're in a place where nobody understands you. There still people who even being born in Brazil, don't know how speak the Portuguese correctly, believe me.

Brazilians don't starve, and we don't want your alms.

Usually tourists (mainly Americans) have the habit of thinking that the Brazilian people live in misery, if you think that, it's okay, no problem, but know that's not true. The people here live very well, and like everywhere in the world, there are poor regions and rich regions. So don't generalise it, because most Brazilians live very well, thank you.

The Legend of Assault.

I've heard a few times that local governments guide people who are going to travel to Brazil to take a "fake wallet" with $20 in case they are mugged. If you think you will come to Brazil and you will be mugged, don't come. This is very disrespectful to us, and I don't even need to speak the reason, right?

Culture

Most people think Brazilian is vulgar and trickster, but that's an unfortunate thought.
Brazilians generally don't like funk and samba as everyone thinks, that's what the media talks about. Most people really hate it, and if you come here dancing funk or singing Anitta, people will think you're an idiot. Brazil is a conservative country.

There is not only Rio de Janeiro.

There are a lot of places to visit, Brazil is a continental country and the diversity of places is infinite, I will leave some images for you, then choose your favorite.
