The history of the sewer hatch.

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hi, my friends.

When I travel, I always like to photograph city accessories - signs, beautiful doors, sewer hatches. It looks like a kind of collecting interesting parts of the cities that I visited.
Here are a few examples. These are sewer hatches, which I photographed in different parts of Prague.

After reading the inscriptions on the hatches, even a person who has lost his memory will know where he is.

Where do you think I took this hatch?

If you saw snow along the edges of the hatch. They already realized that this is definitely not Spain. And you will prove to be right. This hatch is located on one of the main squares of the city of Mogilev. In my native Belarus.
For me it became interesting how this hatch turned out to be in our city. I went around and learned a little. It turns out that the history of hatches with the name "Madrid" began back in the 90s. At the Mogilev Metallurgical Plant in 1991, an order was made for the manufacture of a series of sewer hatches from Spain, the city of Madrid. After some time the order was executed, but the payment never came to the accounts of the plant. And the director of the plant decided to make a gift to the city in the form of the sewers of the city of Madrid. Since that time on some streets of our city you can find such interesting hatches.

Interesting photos! ^_^

I was amazed by this as a kid:

Q: Why are sewer hatches round?
A: If they would be a square, they could fall in!

I have seen pictures of people putting ink on these and printing cool t-shirts.
