Koh Phuket - Vegetarian Festival / Fest der neun Kaisergötter
Every year this festival is held in Asia on the first 9 days of the 9th month. It is a festival of Daoist origin and is therefore celebrated mainly in areas with a high Chinese influence. This year it takes place between 8th - 17th of October.
The Festival is mainly about all different kind of ceremonies, some of them are quite gruesome. On these days you won´t find any meat to eat as everything is vegetarian and most of it is fried! This is to purify the body and mind.
We went to a typical chinese shrine yesterday to join one of the ceremonies. It is quite difficult to understand the timetables and therefore be there at the right time.
Jedes Jahr findet dieses Festival an den ersten 9 Tagen des 9. Monats in Asien statt. Es ist ein Festival taoistischen Ursprungs und wird daher hauptsächlich in Gebieten mit hohem chinesischen Einfluss gefeiert. Dieses Jahr findet es zwischen dem 8. und 17. Oktober statt.
Das Festival dreht sich hauptsächlich um verschiedene Arten von Zeremonien, von denen einige sehr grausam sind. An diesen Tagen wirst du kein Fleisch zum essen finden, da alles vegetarisch ist und das meiste davon gebraten ist! Dies dient dazu den Körper und den Geist zu reinigen.
Wir gingen gestern zu einem typischen chinesischen Schrein, um an einer der Zeremonien teilzunehmen. Es ist ziemlich schwierig, die Fahrpläne zu verstehen und somit zur richtigen Zeit da zu sein.
The festival is very colorful and everyone is in a good mood. It seems like most of them are really excited. There are 1000 different odors in the air and you can hardly breathe in the temples because hundreds of incense sticks burn down at the same time.
Almost everyone wears white, why I did not understand exactly. Anyway, I also had a white shirt on which was more brown than white after the day.
Das Festival ist sehr farbenfroh und alle sind gut gelaunt. Es scheint als seien die meisten richtig aufgeregt. Es liegen 1000 verschiedene Gerüche in der Luft und in den Tempeln kann man kaum atmen da hunderte Räucherstäbchen zeitgleich abbrennen.
Fast jeder trägt weiß, warum habe ich nicht genau verstanden. Jedenfalls hatte ich auch ein weißes shirt an, welches nach dem Tag mehr braun als weiß war.
Actually we came here because of the cruel ceremonies. These ceremonies are very popular among the best photographers in the world. Everybody tries to get images which sell well to magazines.
Probably the best-known ceremony is the one in which people pierce their cheeks. No, we're not talking about an ordinary piercing here, but about swords and all sorts of other things.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to see any of them, as they always take place very early in the morning. But that's probably better if you still want to enjoy all that food.
Eigentlich kamen wir wegen der grausamen Zeremonien her. Diese Zeremonien sind sehr beliebt unter den besten Fotografen der Welt. Jeder versucht hier Aufnahmen zu bekommen welche sich gut an Magazine verkaufen lassen.
Die wohl bekannteste Zeremonie ist diejenige, bei der Menschen ihre Wangen durchbohren. Nein, wir reden hier nicht von einem gewöhnlichen Piercing, sondern von Schwertern und allerlei anderen Dingen.
Leider konnten wir bisher keine sehen, da diese immer sehr früh morgens statt finden. Aber das ist vermutlich auch besser so wenn man das viele Essen noch genießen möchte.

It was a great experience to join such a festival but also was quite happy as we left since it was quite exhausting.

Es war eine tolle Erfahrung, an einem solchen Festival teilzunehmen, aber wir waren auch ziemlich glücklich als wir wieder gingen, da es ziemlich anstrengend war.
Wir werden versuchen, in den kommenden Tagen an einer dieser Piercing Zeremonien teilzunehmen und dir mehr darüber zu erzählen!
