What is the purpose of the stiles? You have posted pictures of them before in your other hikes, but I never understood what they do. Sorry that it wasn't the best hike!
They are simply field dividers. Humans can climb over them, animals can't. They are not in good condition sometimes and can snap while on them, you need to take care.
