In Pictures - Rotterdam Bridges

There is something special about walking across the water. Makes you feel like a superhero? No? Is it just me?

When you think about it, to make such a structure takes a fair bit of genius and even more technology. R’dam is a city full of novelty and the two most prominent bridges try to reflect it.

They just had to name one ‘Erasmus Bridge’. There is little of common interest in town that isn’t called by this medieval scholar. I hope he was as influential as everyone says.

The bridge is an obvious landmark with a delightful view over the Nieuwe Maas River. Nieuwe Maas is a hectic channel full of transportation boats, taxi boats and cargo boats. It is surrounded by stlish, progressive looking skyscrapers.

The other one you shouldn’t miss is known by its red color. It’s slanted to a higher degree as it was meant to be used by cars more than cyclists. In this city, I find it hard to believe. However, it really is kind of easier to cycle across Erasmus in my opinion.

It is named after the king Willem III - Willemsbrug. After sunset it is beautifully illuminated. You know what to do! Hop on one of the tourist ferries and take a look from below. It’s certainly on my to do list!
