In Pictures - Rotterdam, the Nederlands

Moving to a new city can be a pain, especially if it’s a faraway one, but we should always look on the bright side of things. There is always something new and interesting to explore.

Rotterdam has the vibrant vibe of a place moving up the echelons. The capital of Netherlands has its fame and traditional and fairy tale look, but Rotterdam doesn’t lack behind with its hard contemporary look.

When you see the 2 big recent edifices such as Markthaal, market hall and apartment complex all in one, also one huge ceiling for artworks, and newly refurbished Central Station in the strange figure of something that looks a shark, or a tooth, you know what is different here.

Filled with small and large bridges, it draws part of its charm from the water just like its competitor.

Supposedly, lots of projects are supported by a large number of people as crowd fundraisers, an example of the social engagement that’s bringing about good, forward thinking, changes in Rotterdam.

The city was leveled to the ground in the biggest war so far, so lots of new architectural ideas had a clean canvas to work their magic. It is characterised by stern design and high-rise buildings, and on the other side there is Europe’s largest and busiest seaport that shows the conviction of all the labour that sustains the city.

Good beer, relaxed attitude towards personal happiness, high individualism and land of opportunity. Come see what’s it all about.
