A USA travel visa is a permissory travel document that allows the bearer to enter the USA for a short period of time, usually ninety days or less.
The first step towards acquiring a temporary travel visa is to identify the type of visa you are eligible for. There are two types of travel visas, depending on the purpose of the visit to the United States: B-1 for business purposes, or B-2 which is for medical treatment or pleasure. However, there are other types of visas available for those intending to travel for longer periods or for different reasons. Please check all the other categories to properly establish the class of visa you are eligible for. Usually, applicants are required to present supporting documents as to the nature of their trip, proof that they are financially able to cover their expenses during the trip, and evidence that they will indeed return to their country of residence after the expiry of the travel visa.
Applicants are then required to pay a nonrefundable visa application fee before their visa application interview can be scheduled. The cost of the processing fee is usually dependent on the type of visa to be issued.
Next, carefully fill out the DS-160 form electronically. You can access more information about this form on www.ustraveldocs.com. Filling out the form is a sensitive step, as information entered on the form cannot be edited, once filled. You may need to seek the advice of an immigration lawyer to properly fill this form in line with the guidelines. You will need to print out a copy of the confirmation page for your interview. Please be prepared to upload your photo while filling in the form. After paying the fee and submitting the DS-160 form, you may then proceed to request for your interview.
This is done by creating a New User profile on the US Embassy database where you will be required to fill out a bio-data form.
Afterwards, you must confirm your account from the email that will be sent to you.
After email confirmation, login to your account and click on Schedule Appointment to set your interview date and time. Details of your interview will be sent to you via email.
Finally, show up promptly at the US Embassy on your interview date and be prepared to answer questions from an Embassy official about the true nature and duration of your intended trip.
When showing up to your visa application interview, it is important that you go prepared with all the supporting documents you may be asked to present. These include a passport photograph, your visa fee payment receipt, a copy of the confirmation page for your electronic form (DS-160), proof of income including bank statements, tax receipts, a letter from your employer confirming your intent and purpose of travel, and comprehensive medical records if purpose of travel is medical treatment. You will also need an international passport with at least six months validity even after your intended travel date.
