Cowtown - Welcome to the Stockyards!
The Stockyards of Fort Worth wasn't always known as such. In 1893 the stockyards were purchased by Boston resident Greenleif Simpson. At the time of his purchase, he changed the name from the Union Stockyards to Fort Worth Stockyards. The stockyards thrived as Simpson invited other investors to the table.
Today the Stockyards is home to a herd of longhorn cattle, and a cattle drive takes place twice a day up and down the brick paved street.
On the South side of the street, the sidewalk is lined with stars.
"Stagecoach" Mary Fields
Mary was born a slave in Tennessee c.1832, and gained her freedom in 1865 after slavery was abolished. Mary Fields would later become the first African-American woman star route carrier. She wasn't actually and employee of the United States Postal Service. However, she earned herself quite a reputation, and she was both feared and respected!
The Lone Ranger Revealed
The Lone Ranger, I watched faithfully as a child! Yes, the show was way before my time. However, I loved it almost as much as 'I Love Lucy'.
