Guatapé, one of the country's largest lakes, were created in part by the construction of a hydroelectric dam that provides 30% of Colombia’s electricity supply. It's hard to miss the region's most famous attraction, a 200+ meter high rock outcropping that towers over the surrounding area. It's officially named El Peñon de Guatapé.

@jpphotography Tuesday of Antarctica and World´s Oceans entry:

Dark Clouds over New Zealand Beach. I don't remember on which of New Zealand's countless beaches I took this shot, but I believe it was somewhere on the North Island's West Coast. Despite the dark clouds in this photo, I was lucky to have almost no rain during seven weeks in this beautiful country.

7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - European Thursday week #89 - winner announcement!

@svemirac European Thursday entry:

Biogradsko Jezero represents the largest mountain lake in Montenegro. It is located on Mount Bjelasica, and wooden environment makes the most beautiful part of the national park Biogradska Gora. Water is supplied by glacier melting from the mountains and during the autumns it's usually low, as it can be seen on the photo.

7 World’s Continents Photo Challenge - North American Friday week #89 - winner announcement!

@ladybug146 North American Friday entry:

Another goodie from Banff National park. This is a view of Cascade Mountain and the small resort town of Banff at the bottom from the top of Sulfur Mountain at over 7000 ft in altitude. In april, most of the snow in the valleys is melted leaving snow covered peaks until summer. Taking pictures from high altitudes results in a blue haze when looking down below, fighting with the atmosphere, much like when looking up at the sky, it appears blue, same concept but reverse.

Statue located on the top of the Monserrate Hill that towers above Bogota, the capital city of Colombia. Situated at 3,152 metres (10,341 ft) above the sea level, the hill offers some amazing views of the city and its natural surroundings.

Monserrate is really nice. I like this. I see that you were not very lucky with the weather.

Yeah, this shot is pretty cloudy but we got some sun up there too, I will post these photos later ;)

Bogotá is the capital and largest city of Colombia. Bogota is the heart of modern Colombia, with over 6.5 million inhabitants. It’s a center of arts and culture, an innovator, a mecca of colonial architecture and modern architecture, a cycle-friendly paradise, a haven of green spaces and a culinary capital.

I took this photo when I was flying over The Andes, near Santiago (Chile). It is impressive to see all these mountains “so close” and covered with snow, with the big contrast of the deep blue of the sky.

I decided to go to the beach to walk, take pictures, relax, really do something different, I felt happy walking barefoot through the water, the sand, it was great. I remembered a bit the good times when I was still an active Taekwondo athlete and I was going to jog in the early hours of the morning, it was part of my physical preparation and I enjoyed it a lot.

Volcanoes of the High Andes Chile/Argentina - South America
sas2.1.png
At the centre of the High Andes between Argentina and Chile in South America are some huge volcanoes. Here are the volcanoes San Jose (~5800 m) and Marmalejo (~6100 m). Both are "active" and both are beautiful with a bit of sun on them at the end of the day. This photo is special to me as it is such a beautiful place and I hope you enjoy the view from the warmth of the internet!

Inca Ruins at Isla del Sol, Bolivia

Surrounded by Titikaka Lake, Isla del Sol was a holy place at Incan times. It was believed to be the origin of the fist Incas and the birthplace of the sun. However, the island was inhabited long before and is believed to have been conquered by the Incas only in the 15th century.

Mountains the chimborazo

Cerca del Chimborazo1.jpg

This beautiful landscape with these great horses and the background "El Chimborazo", is located in Ecuador, these mountains are the highest in this country. The upper part of Mount Chimborazo is completely covered by glaciers and snow, these glaciers have decreased in recent decades, apparently due to the combined influences of climate change.

Here is a turtle from the Tortoise Reserve El Chato, on the Santa Cruz Island of the Galapagos. Galapagos giant tortoises can measure between 1.20 m and 1.50 m. They are a very fragile specie even if their average weigh is 220 kg (422 kg is the record!). Their life expectancy can be between 150 years to 200 years, but all will not be able to reach this age if they are not protected.
