THE GORGEOUS COASTLINE OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA - ESPERANCE

I recently took a trip to the gorgeous southern coastline of Western Australia, Esperance is the town to be exact. I grew up and spent 18 years of my life here before moving away for work. Not a day goes by that I don't miss this place, it is a beautiful place to holiday and to raise a family as well.

French explorers are credited with making the first landfall here, naming it and other local landmarks whilst sheltering from a storm in 1792. The town itself was named after a French ship, the Espérance which was commanded by Jean-Michel Huon de Kermadec. The word 'Espérance' is French for 'hope'.

Near the town itself are numerous beaches, offering surfing, scuba diving, and swimming. Also nearby are a number of salt lakes, including Pink Lake, which gains its rosy hue from red algae living in its waters. Esperance is also home to the Cyclops wave, said to be the world's heaviest wave with massive amounts of water unloading on shallow reef. Cyclops is featured in the surfing films Billabong Odyssey, and the Bra Boys documentary.

There are a lot of things to see and do in Esperance, numerous walking / riding trails all around the town and surrounds, as well as bushlands and many different businesses as well.

My son had a great time feeding animals at a local animal and bird rescue park. This is a Kangaroo (above) and two Emu (below).

Esperance has a lot of unique places to explore, these protected pine woodlands are absolutely stunning.

We had a great time and i'm sure if you visited you would too! If you ever get a chance to visit Australia, try to make a trip south from Perth city and visit this unique and wonderful place.
