This detail is one of many from on the wooden monument standing in the form of an obelisk and is dedicated to the 96th fallen NOB fighters and victims of violence (The monument of the Battle of Porezen), which took place at the end of March 1945.

It is the work of sculptor P. Jovanovic and was put to stand on 6/8/1975. Despite its age, it's a well-preserved reminder of a cruel war history. In her memory, the Mountaineering Society Cerkno organizes a winter hike to Porezen every year. I admit, I never went to Porezen, but maybe next year.

That is really beautiful handcraft, I love carving on wood, actually I was thinking myself to start up doing something like that. Three years ago we had to cut down an old tree just at our stone wall so we have a lot of chopped wood therefore I thought to use it. But you need to have s much instruments before even starting so I changed my mind.

Monument is done with a lot of love to details and hopefully will remain for future generation to prevent them from hte mistakes of the previous generation :)

Being talented like you I think it's worth to buy some tools. Maybe you can borrow it first, and if you will love the craft, you will still have the time to buy your own.

I like dark wood but its a very somber art work.

It is a sad reminder of the dark history, but I must admit the artist was quite talented.

In memory of the fallen people during 1945. It is a beautiful monument. @emmamia

Thank you.
