London ~ Our Last Day, The SkyGarden, Soaking Up The Sun in Covent Garden, and Final Thoughts.

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

As I wrap up my posts about our recent trip to London I recall the following quote by the late Anthony Bourdain…

“It seems that the more places I see and experience, the bigger I realize the world to be. The more I become aware of, the more I realize how relatively little I know of it, how many places I have still to go, how much more there is to learn.”

For me, it’s never the big attractions on the itinerary that resonate with me the most. It's always the spontaneous moments I never could have predicted that stay with me.

Like the swarm of bees we encountered while riding on the upper level of the double decker bus as we passed by St. Paul’s Cathedral... How incredibly orange the egg yolks were during breakfast at 26 Grains on our last day.... The songs the street musician crooned as sunlight was racing to meet the horizon that last afternoon in Covent Garden...the barefoot man who danced alone on the centuries old cobblestone streets to his songs...That last delicious meal at the Hawksmoor restaurant in Seven Dials, where we had the most decadent dessert of our lives (the sticky toffee sundae with clotted cream ice cream, sticky toffee sponge, & toffee sauce.)

These seemingly insignificant moments will now be forever woven into the fabric of our being. To think, we never would have experienced them if we hadn’t been lucky enough to board that plane across the Atlantic. The world would be a better and more peaceful place if more people made travel a priority. I’m sure of it. It was a melancholy moment to close the door on our Floral Street Airbnb in Covent Garden for the very last time. London delivered much more than I hoped for, there was beauty around every corner and in the most unlikely of places.

The nasty residual effects of jet lag and nagging head cold I carried back across the ocean with me are a small price to pay for this awesome experience. I’m already looking forward to the next trip and sharing it with you. Every time I travel I'm reminded that it's still a big world there's so much more I need to see.

I’d like to thank everyone in London who made our trip such a memorable experience and we apologize to all of the London-based Steemians we missed this time around. As always, the time just went way too fast but we hope to see you when we return.

I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring London with us!

Thank you for reading,

Eric

felt like we all were exploring that place with you awesome trip this has been !

I had fun putting these posts together. It was like going on the trip twice.

I was traveling with my eyes alongside you Eric, thank you for sharing your London trip! That's definitely one on my bucket list!

I'm glad you enjoyed it! We want to go back soon, we barely scratched the surface with our first trip.

If your photographs are already beautiful, your words have been more beautiful, @ericvancewalton. You've left me thinking about how many places we'll never leave because they'll always go with us. It is not what we see, but what we feel every time we remember what we have lived. Thank you for letting us share this journey with you. You have been an excellent guide. We will wait for the next destination! Bye

Thank you so much @nancybriti and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I like how you put that..."It is not what we see, but what we feel every time we remember what we have lived." That is spot on.

one hell of a dessert!!
This is so well said -

This is also a sign that you're truly enjoying yourselves too :-)))

It was insanely decadent!

It was pretty much just sugar, cream, and butter, I think. : )

Anthony Bourdain's quote beautifully adorns your final publication of this wonderful journey, @ericvancewalton, as he said in your previous post: "The best thing about traveling is the experience of knowing..." and also, the opportunity to treasure unforgettable emotions. I magically enjoyed your trip with each one of your presentations, I am grateful for the generosity of sharing it with us. Now I am waiting for the next destination and enjoy life. A sincere hug.

Anthony was one of my favorite writers...just brilliant. I still can't believe he's gone. I appreciate your kind words!

I think your trip to London is indeed very fun and extraordinary, Eric. I enjoyed it through the picture you shared. Beautiful places, good foods, very friendly people, definitely make you very memorable. Hopefully you really enjoy it. Have a nice day, sir.

Thanks @elianaelisma! I saved all of the British currency we had left as an incentive to go back. : )

This is very cool and one day I will travel the world too.
Nothing like the experiences of the beautiful countries their culture and people.

It's like never-ending, life teaching experience which I have a bit of it, but would definitely love to travel way more and create those special, life long memories.

It's so worth the sacrifice. Experiences are far better than things and travel is better than any university education.

@ericvancewalton, Definitely more we travel and explore places we learn more and our consciousness expands and this expansion of consciousness let us know that there is so much to learn and to see in this world.

Wishing you more blessed and awesome travel journeys ahead. Stay blessed.

Good pictures! Learning from each place seems infinite but if it should be great to do it, I hope that soon you can live another experience.

Excellent overview and great slides, Eric and of course a little pity that your trip came to an end, but during this time you were able to show us many interesting places and convey the inspiring atmosphere of London, well done!
