Wroclaw is the capital of the historical region of Silesia, whose name is mentioned in the writings of ancient Roman historians. True, the city itself came a long time later. It is believed that the Czechs established it - a legend linking this reward with Prince Vratislav, who reigned in the 10th century and gave his name to the city.

The history of Wroclaw is full of dramatic events. More than once destroyed by war, more than once the city turned out to be part of various countries - Czech Republic, Prussia, Austria-Hungary, Germany. But after World War II, which caused great damage to Wroclaw, he returned to Poland and led Lower Silesia.

The historical and geographical center of the city is Tumsky Island. Its architectural appearance is determined by the narrow ancient streets and, of course, the Cathedral of John the Baptist. The temple, founded in the XIII century, is considered one of the first Gothic religious buildings in the Polish region. Cathedral peaks rise almost 100 meters to the sky.

In spring and summer, Tumsky Island is buried in flowers and greenery. The local botanical garden, which has been operating for about two centuries, is a favorite spot for residents and tourists alike. Here they rested, pointed to the meeting and just admired the exotic flora in the vast greenhouse. If you are looking for a cheap holiday, you should incorporate this natural angle into your itinerary. Many impressions are guaranteed!

Another focus of tourist life is the ancient Market Square, which began to be built in the XIII century. Its pride is the Town Hall building, which has absorbed several architectural styles: from Gothic to Renaissance. The town hall is famous for its clocks and astronomical museums, and among the local cuisine lovers - also a cozy restaurant, located in its basement.

The interesting and modern architecture of Wroclaw, especially represented by the Hall of the Century - a large circular building in the Art Nouveau style, was founded in the early XX century at Szczytnickiy Park. A hundred years ago it was considered a real breakthrough in construction, as it uses a reinforced concrete structure. This magnificent concert and exhibition complex is included in the UNESCO list.

Any guide to Wroclaw will definitely suggest you to visit Raclawicka Panorama. He described one of the fights during the Tadeusz Kosciuszko rebellion of 1794. The canvas is 114 meters long and 15 meters high, and placed in a circle - to "immerse" the viewer in the picture. This strange "3D effect" was discovered at the end of the XIX century!

The Wroclaw symbol became a dwarf statue, which can be found everywhere. They ride bikes and bottles, eat dumplings or just sit on the sidewalk. How many of them in Wroclaw, even elderly people who do not know - after all, among these fraternities there is always a new character. By the way, the first gnome appeared in the city during the Solidarity period and had a political "tone". And now just a beautiful ornament.

Well, if you want to touch the real romance of Wroclaw, you should walk a short walk on the water. Not every city can boast so many rivers, other than that the views of Wroclaw from cruises and motor boats open just beautiful! They say it's no worse than in Prague!
