A Visit to the French Quarter in New Orleans

in #travel5 years ago

It’s finally time for the TravelersMemoire guide to New Orleans, or at least the French Quarter. This guide comes complete with restaurant recommendations, places to visit and much much more! If you enjoy the guide or stumble upon this when planning a visit there’s definitely more to come so checkout my feed or hit subscribe.

  • Upon arriving in New Orleans the first thing a person ABSOLUTELY has to do is visit the famed French Quarter. In the French Quarter I specifically recommend a walk down/by Bourbon Street, Royal Street and the stunning Jackson Square.

Bourbon Street really doesn’t need any introductions it’s the crazy, booze fuelled, blues themed drinking street of New Orleans. On Bourbon Street drinking in public is legal so bar hopping is encouraged, necessary even. With each bar having AMAZING world renown cocktails(I’d recommend Absynth or a Bloody Mary), delectable music(blues, jazz, hip hop, rap, pop, karaoke they’ve got it all), and no last calls be prepared for a long neon filled night out. Also for those non drinkers and foodies out there I’d recommend heading over to Acme Oyster house and trying some world famous oysters or, if your allergic to shellfish like me, a delicious PoBoy.

After the neon nights on Bourbon Street a refreshing day on Royal Street might be just what the doctor ordered. Here it’s calmer, the streets are filled with antique shops, and the architecture is stunning! I’d recommend visiting during the day, and doing a bit of window shopping. Some of these shops have antique pieces that could fit right into a museum.

After roaming the streets of the French Quarter the final stop for any good tourist should be Jackson Square. Here you’ve got some STUNNING examples of 1800s French and Spanish architecture with antique mansions, a towering church and cobblestone streets it’s truly a must see!

There’s likely a lot more detailed guides to come but for those planning a trip there just might not be the time to wait so in no specific order I’d also recommend a look into swamp tours, the Garden District, Commanders Palace, and if you want a quite hotel avoid the French Quarter and look into the Business District. Happy travels!
