- The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported an eruption in progress along Kīlauea Volcano's lower East Rift Zone. As of 1445 Monday, May 7, at least 12 known fissure vents were opened in Leilani Estates subdivision.
- Two new fissures have emerged today south of Malama Street emitting lava and gas. HVO confirms that although volcanic activity has subsided from many fissures, hazardous fumes from high levels of sulfur dioxide gas continue.
- Since the onset of this eruption, 35 structures have been destroyed.
- All residents in Leilani Estates and Lanipuna Gardens Subdivisions are under a mandatory evacuation.
- Conditions permitting, Leilani Estates residents will be allowed to check on their property from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
- The level of sulfur dioxide gas is determined unsafe for first responders to conduct operations without proper personal protective equipment. This is especially true for the lower east section of Leilani Estates.
- The area continues to be unstable with multiple volcanic eruptions.
- Earthquakes continue at a diminished rate compared to the past couple of days. The stations nearest to the erupting fissures record fluctuating amplitude levels that correspond to fissure eruptive activity.
- A community meeting was scheduled for Pahoa High School Cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 7 to share information about the status of the volcanic activity in Leilani Estates. A Disaster Information Center is scheduled for Wednesday, May 9 with details to be announced.
- Civil Defense has established a community information center at Sacred Hearts Church in Pāhoa, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- Highway 130 is closed between Highway 132 (Pahoa-Kapoho/Kapoho Road) and Old Kalapana Road.
- The intersection at Highway 132 and Pohoiki Road is closed to allow evacuation efforts to proceed.
- Seven traffic control points have been established to facilitate the mandatory evacuation and control access into the area.
