Back In Time

in #travel6 years ago

Imagine a town on the main highway that is full for vacationers heading to Los Angeles. The place was vivid and full local business until 1978 when a highway bypass was constructed and devastated the tourism of this town. Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to many towns along route 66.

One of the towns along the historic route 66, is Seligman, Arizona. The town was a popular stop along route 66 between the years 1926 to 1978 until I-40 constructed and Seligman was bypassed in favor of faster interstate travel. This town refused to give up and it persisted against all odds.

The town maintained the early 20th century buildings and set up bars, cafe, and shops to attract road travelers to visit and hang out for a while. The unique architecture and the classic cars and old trucks in front of the business, allow you to experience what life looked like back in the day.

**Fun Fact : the Pixar animation movie, "Cars" was based on seligman.**

This town is for sure one of the coolest places I've ever been to. The quirky gift shop and the unique style of this place made me feel like I was transported back in time, but most of all, I loved the history of this town, and the determination of its people, to not give up, and survive against all odds.
