Wow. What a story. Fascinating. It's a pity such an area, with such an intriguing story is in such state of abandonment. Is it too cold? isn't the land fertile?
It sadens me to see such extentions of land so underuse. What made people abandon this area?
I was so impressed by the pictures of the felled trees. Can't believe what beavers can do :)
The land here is quite fertile. The process of the extinction of villages was launched even during the collapse of the Soviet Union, when large state farms stopped working. There are no jobs, and people need to somehow survive. All pulled closer to the big cities. And the old people who lived here have already died.
