Day 4: Bobokov kuk

Today we got up very early - at 7 AM, because we were planning to climb up the highest mountain in Durmitor - the Bobokov Kuk. Also today was the first night when I was not cold, because we slept in the free shelter. For even a better start I put fresh sheep milk from the shepherd into the muesli. I could feel the energy entering my veins!

Today we will be heading to the highest mountain Bobokov Kuk (2523 m) with our full backpacks. We are taking about 2 litres of water which should be enough for at least 3 hours of hike for the two of us.

Get high!

First 2 hours of walking up were pretty easy. Then the path changed to something like a river composed of little rocks. In combination with the high slope it made each step quite hard. It felt as if flowing under the feet.

We were at the top, the 360 view was amazing, we could also see where we were hiking the past days.

Get low!

After we left the peak, the fun really started. On our old and not so exact map we found a trail heading from Bobokov Kuk in another direction than we had taken up. It was leading towards the valley with Mlynsky potok. The map must have been very outdated, because what we found was hardly a path, more like a climbing route. There was a point where we almost panicked, but finally we made it off the ridge, down to the saddle. The adventure was not over though. The trail then continued through a field of rocks, where you have to hop from one block to another. It is quite difficult both from physical and mental point of view, because one has to concentrate on each step.

We lost the trail completely or there wasn’t any, but we knew the direction and after around 2 hours of steep descent we made it to a marked trail. What a relief! We refreshed ourselves with last sips of water (after 6 hours of walk in a hot weather) and hurried down the mountains towards the stream.

It took us at least another 1.5 hours till we found water, which made the descend even harder. When we arrived to Crno Jezero, we could barely stand. Having walked 9 hours in total our backpacks felt like 30 kg, even though they weighed not even half of that. The refreshment, though, we got from the swim in the lake was miraculous. Or was it the freshly picked mushrooms we put into our rice and soya for the dinner?

We met with Zdenek and Beata, our car sharing hosts, who took us to the sea, to Budva. But the day hadn’t ended yet, which we were about to see.

Conquest of the Citadel

We had a wine with them at the seaside and took a walk into the center of Budva, which was full of party. We tried to infiltrate a closed citadel. We even got to the top terrace, which offered a great view of the city, but then we got busted and kicked out.

We went back to the car, where we had our sleeping bag and mattresses and fell asleep around 2 am at a small grassy area hidden from the street. But still, the day hadn’t ended yet.

Seizing the Drug Dealer

At around 5 am I am waking up because I am hearing shouting and seeing police lights. I see three policemen chasing some guy. Still half asleep I feel like in the middle of a movie scene and I am realizing that the guy is running off the street directly to the hidden area, where we are lying. I tell @mor to wake up, so we can watch the movie together. Five meters in front of us the guy suddenly changes direction and jumps into the bushes, where the police gets him. They tie him and drag to their car.

We couldn’t sleep afterwards, because every half an hour another group of police came and investigated the place. We took our stuff and left to find something for breakfast. After eating local bread and yoghurt @mor slept some more and I meditated. I certainly had stuff to meditate about.
