La Palma - La Isla Bonita (Part 2 - The South) english-german
After I reported in my last post about the green north of La Palma, I would like to continue the journey to the south today. We started again in Santa Cruz de La Palma, because our apartment was near the island's capital. We drove above the coast and reached a small place where you obviously prepared for a party. The streets were adorned with ornaments of flowers and herbs, and some pictures were made on large metal sculptures using this technique.
Nachdem ich in meinem letzten Post über den grünen Norden von La Palma berichtet habe, möchte ich heute die Reise in den Süden fortsetzen. Auch hier starteten wir wieder in Santa Cruz de La Palma, denn unser Appartement war in der Nähe der Insel-Hauptstadt. Wir fuhren oberhalb der Küste entlang und erreichten einen kleinen Ort in dem man sich offensichtlich auf ein Fest vorbereitete. Man hatte die Straßen mit Ornamenten aus Blumen und Kräutern geschmückt und auch einige Bilder auf großen Metallskulpturen mit dieser Technik angefertigt.
After looking around for a while, we drove on towards the southern cape.
Nachdem wir uns ein wenig umgeschaut hatten, fuhren wir weiter in Richtung des südlichen Kaps.
The further south you go, the more the landscape changes. It goes into a dry volcanic landscape with little vegetation. Directly on the southern cape is a lighthouse. Here one wins in salines an excellent table salt.
Je weiter man nach Süden kommt, umso mehr verändert sich die Landschaft. Sie geht in eine trockene Vulkanlandschaft mit wenig Vegetation über. Direkt am südlichen Kap befindet sich ein Leuchtturm. Hier gewinnt man in Salinen ein vorzügliches Speisesalz.
This landscape stands in stark contrast to the north of the island and it is simply fascinating to find such differences in climate and vegetation in such a small space. There are several hiking trails on and along the craters. We also went on one of the routes along the craters. Here are a few impressions from this tour.
Diese Landschaft steht in einem starken Kontrast zum Norden der Insel und es ist einfach faszinierend solch unterschiedliche Klima- und Vegetationsunterschiede auf so kleinem Raum zu finden. Es gibt etliche Wanderrouten auf und entlang der Krater. Wir haben uns auch auf eine der Routen entlang der Krater begeben. Nachfolgend ein paar Eindrücke von dieser Tour.
The craters are different in age and are therefore partly populated by plants again. The different coloration comes from the metals and minerals contained in the lava flow. The last outbreak was in 1971, and 2 people died as a result of the accumulation of CO2 gases in subsidence.
Die Krater sind unterschiedlich alt und sind daher auch zum Teil schon wieder von Pflanzen besiedelt. Die unterschiedliche Färbung kommt von den im Lavastrom enthaltenen Metallen und Mineralien. Der letzte Ausbruch war im Jahr 1971 und durch die Ansammlung von CO2 Gasen in Bodensenken kamen dabei 2 Menschen ums Leben.
From one of the craters you can already overlook the west coast of the island. The slopes have been cultivated again and you grow wine among other things.
Von einem der Krater kann man schon die Westküste der Insel überblicken. Die Hänge sind schon wieder kultiviert worden und man baut unter anderem Wein an.
Auf unserer Weiterfahrt kamen wir auch an wunderschönen Buchten mit kleinen Badestränden vorbei. Aber Vorsicht, der schwarze Sand heizt sich ziemlich schnell auf und man kann ihn nicht ohne Badeschuhe betreten.
And that was it already, our tour through the south of the island of La Palma. I hope you liked it. In my next post I will report on the really spectacular island center.

wow there is something beautiful about those volcanic beaches, shores and the volcanos themselves. I guess cuz it's because they stand out so much from all the regular landscapes: white sand beaches, and rocky shores. Amazing gallery again. Cheers - keep those delicious posts coming!

I'm interested in what type of festival they were having when they had those beautiful decorations with herbs and flowers?
Are any of those volcanoes active?

Thank you @porters. It's on several christian festivals. The island is still active. They have earthquakes and the last eruption was in 1971 and they are awaiting the next ones.
Excellent photography, those mountains seem so bare compared to what I am surrounded by here in Victoria Canada 🇨🇦

Wow! So I am correct about the weather on the other side, as we have the same thing over here. One side of the mountain is Mediterranean climate and we grow apples and on the other side no apple will grow as it is much warmer.
This is a great series of posts and your photography is excellent.

The island of La Palma has the characteristics of all the other Canary Islands on a single island. That's why it's so beautiful, it has volcanic places like Lanzarote and forests like Tenerife.
That's why they call it the beautiful island. If you liked that island, I invite you to visit the rest Canary Island. 😊

Yes, it's all in one of the Canary Islands. I have already visited others. I also loved Lanzarote and Teneriffa. And my wife was on La Gomera before.
