Short Story: A funny experience at an army check point while traveling to Owerri, a city in Imo State , Nigeria.

Hello Steemians

Today I want to tell you about an experience, funny to some extent, at an army checkpoint on my way while traveling with a friend a few days ago. I wasn't the victim by the way. If you are a Nigerian and reading this, this is totally relatable.

We were enjoying our journey from Onitsha to Owerri...the driver was just playing lucky Dube songs and everywhere was calm.

Eventually, we got to one army check point, and the army guys seemed to be very keen on wasting our time.. we spent close to 5 minutes there and they were still doing as if they were not going to release us anytime soon.

Being pissed off, one of the girls inside the bus just said "all these touts that dropped out of school and mistakenly took army uniform will just be misbehaving and doing anyhow" 😱.

She didn't know that her village people had tabled her matter in their village meeting (one of the soldiers at the back heard her).

With that anger, he commanded all of us to come down from the bus!!😬
We obeyed promptly. He shouted "who said that?"

We were busy beating about the bush... hoping that we would be able to save the lady. Seeing what we were doing, he cocked his gun😱, we didn't allow him to ask the question the second time before we just pointed at the girl to avoid an accidental discharge (anything can happen).
Immediately, he held her by the throat, separated her from the rest of us and told every other person to enter the bus and start going.

By this time, all the soldiers had gathered around her...one said they would show her how touts behave, and another said something else to the same effect.
One of the soldiers from the back gave this girl one thunderous slap... and like magic, the girl who was crying before the slap started smiling all of a sudden.
It was so funny...I finally saw, first hand, the effects of slaps received from soldiers that comedians always talk about. (I always heard, buh I never saw) 😂

The Reverend sister in our bus said she would not go with us except they released the girl. She went and started begging them to release the girl but they refused, insisting that the girl must reach their barracks.

This reverend sister begged for more than 30 minutes all to no avail.. finally, she laid down before them and told them to do to her whatever they wanted to do to the girl, that they should release the girl and let her stay.
At this point, she was crying, stating that if Jesus could die for her sins, she was willing to take up the girl's punishment.

That single act melted the heart of the soldiers.. they started begging her to stand up, but she refused to do so unless they released the girl..it was only then that they went and brought the girl out from their car. They felt so bad because the sister's clothe was now dirty.. they even offered to call a cab for her to take her anywhere she was going but she declined.
She entered our bus and we drove off again..this time, the bus was so quiet.. like a grave yard, and even the driver did not continue playing his Lucky Dube songs..

The young lady was as quiet as dumb person.. the effects of the slap and the things she would have passed through (if she was taken to their barracks) made her remain in sober reflection.

After a while, the angelic sister dropped at one bus stop.. Trust Nigerians!!...they opened the girl's matter again.
One guy was so angry that he even threatened to give the girl his own slap 😁.
THIS IS NIGERIA.

Don't be quick to talk even when you are angry, The fear of Soldiers under the smiling sun is the beginning of wisdom

Thanks for coming around. Have a nice day ahead.
