Travelling To The West Coast Of Canada....In Less Than 12 Hours!
I missed yesterday's Monday Night Thoughts...
Today I slacked on the Noob Night Cryptocast!
So I think it's about time I come clean....
I took off for a spur of the moment trip to Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada....
I'm coming out west for a quick vacation to visit a part of my country I have never been to before...
And it started in Banff National Park at the famous Lake Louise...
Next I got through Yoho National Park and crossed the British Columbia border just in time to see the sunset come across the Rocky Mountains...
After spending the night in Revelstoke B.C., I woke up early and reached Kamloops where I ran into a tragic part of summers in the Canadian west...
A massive forest fire covered the highways for a good 45 minutes...
But things started to clear up the closer I got to the coast...I got through the lower mainland and reached the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal for a quick boat ride over to Vancouver Island...
So here I am....
On Vancouver Island for the next week and a half! I hope you join me over the next few days as I explore the island for the first time...
One of the biggest surprises that I've found so far since I've been here...
Palm trees! In Canada.....Seriously ;)
So that was the first 12 hours or so...Let's see what I will discover next...

Yea dude palm trees, depending on where you are on the island its a fairly temperate winter here.
Where on the island are you? I am in Victoria, some interesting things here to check out 😉. I’ll come clean also, I would love to meet my first person from the steemit community! I know a fair amount about the island, lived here all my life and depending on what your into there are limitless possibilities just need to drive a little.
I highly suggest doing the Crofton -> SaltSpring Island -> Vancouver ferry trip on your way back, super scenic and depending on which ferry(depends on schedule) you catch off of SSI you could do “the milk run” which stops at all the gulf islands before dropping you off at Vancouver. You can’t get off at the other gulf islands but at least you could get some interesting pictures. I think the ferry ride works out cheaper also, pay to get onto SSI but not off not sure if the rumours of talks about that changing for the Vancouver route have happened yet or not.
On SSI I would suggest checking out Ruckle Park and the Saturday Market right downtown Ganges. If you have a decent car with clearance or a suv you could go up Mount Maxwell which over looks Mill Bay but you can usually see clear down into the US. It’s a good day visit but it’s fairly quaint.
Yea all that smoke from Kamloops is just lingering between Vancouver island and the mainland. Smoke has been an issue here for awhile, if you look closely on my pictures or vlogs from my vacation you can clearly make out the haze lingering pretty low agains the mountains. It seems to be getting worse here every year, but Port Alberni is always the worse being a valley with an inlet to the ocean. The fires are starting earlier and earlier and lasting that much longer, I remember as a kid writing about them usually starting mid August but now it’s mid July.

W00t! Coffee at Cherry’s is a must super funky little place.
Did you know the X men castle is here in Victoria? Hatley Castle in Colwood is also a must imo. I just found out about it not to long ago.

Lmao naw I tend to stay away from downtown, I’m a small town boy originally 😎 Cherry’s is like stepping into the 50’s a generation or 3 before my time but it’s still on the out skits of town. I need my natural forest those concrete, metal and glass trees just aren’t the same 😝.

Looks like a fun time man! I'm wondering, did you take the ferry to Nanaimo or more North? We went through Nanaimo a while back and it was beautiful. I know you'll have a blast. Enjoy your time and I think you're about to find out that with traveling you'll NEVER run out of content LOL. :)
nah. just to victoria so far. plan to go up to nanaimo in the next few days. i might get hooked to island life lol
