A two day trip to Prague (part 1)

In our two weeks back in Europe we also decided to go a bit abroad, to really have the feeling we were actually on vacation, and not only just escaping our mad lives in Sint Martin. Our destination ended up being Prague. Not specifically because we really wanted to go to Prague, but more of the convenience of an easy access through the airport in my hometown, as well that it is cheap as f%ck. Or at least, as expensive how you decide to make it.

So we decided to go for two full days, and we arrived in the morning quite early, way too early to check in our hotel. So we decided to start walking around the city, it was sunny and cold outside, so it was perfect for walking. Immediately we were sucked in by the beauty of the architecture, which you can literally find on every corner on every street. The city just looks like one big beautiful building, And everything well so well maintained. In the city center of Prague there is a big river running north to south and this really helps you orientate around the city. If you are lost, just go back to the river. Again also the bridges were just stunning to see crossing the water everywhere.

We were walking around with no specific goal, just a bit towards the old center. In a beautiful looking candyshop we got screwed over big time on the price of the candy, currency mixup in our heads

Outside we see a nice portion of strawberries on the market, for 40 kronor. I am thinking this is too good to be true, strawberries in November for 15 cent. And so it was, we turned out to have made a nice screw over pay for the candy of 33 US dollar, and the strawberries were normal price. Ej, it happens to the best, right?

So we continue our journey by foot, and find the old square, actually it was a matter of following the Chinese tourists and their guides. On the square we decided to go full on touristmode and sit ourselves on one of the heated terraces and have a nice drink. People were gathering outside the terrace, more and more came, and they were gathering to see the clock strike the full hour. We weren’t sure on what was going to happen (no preparations, no clue), so we waited it out. Apparently, the clock has the 12 apostles from the bible passing by from a sort of wooden dolls. Not to be offensive to anyone, but they really looked like all the puppets from ‘a small world’ in Disney passing by. I wasn’t really impressed to say for the least, but hey I could observe this with a nice Czechian Pivo AKA beer in my hand, so I was cool.

We continued our journey back over the water to the west side of the river, were a big old castle is. We didn’t go into the castle, but we walked around in the little streets there, until we decided to hike back to our hotel. We found the coolest art along the way, and were still impressed by our surroundings. We walked about 11 kilometers in total during the walk, and I wasn’t bored for a second.

After a little rest we were on the hunt for food. Our choice of diner was an extravagant one, recommended by a chef who is our friend. I always like his choices of food, so an advice about food, is one to listen to. We took the taxi to Sasazu, a 20 minute drive for 250 kronor (about 10 bucks) which to me was very reasonable. Sasazu is an Asian fusion restaurant, with a fantastic scenery. It looks like it is situated in an old meatpacking factory, but the inside was super stylish. I didn’t take any snaps, just because I wanted to enjoy everything to the fullest. We let the chef decide what we should eat, so we did a tasting of 6 courses, with matching wines. I really loved the creativity of the dishes, but to be honest, if I would go there a next time, I would not choose any meaty dishes. I just found they made the fish dishes in a better way, than they made the meat dishes, but that is just an opinion of course.

Service was just fantastic, and the cocktails were also great. Not something to do every week though, if you want your wallet to survive hahaha. It aint cheap, but we enjoyed to the max. Day 1 Prague: YAY!!!
