I was to Stonehenge eight years ago (last time I was in Britain), and it was all enclosed... I did see Avbury and some other giant stoneage sites that was just lying there. A much bigger experience.
I went to Stonehenge years ago when the reopened it up for the summer solstice, I don't mind paying for a ticket but they wanted £50 for a family ticket which is over the top.
To me it is important to have some air around me and those old stones. Fifty quids for being herded around with Midwest American tourists and German Wicca - no thanks. I understand that they have to do it to preserve the site, but I can live without it then. There are for 50£ of treasures to be found in any pub in the vicinity.
