Travel photo diary – Rome, Italy 2017 part 1

in #travel7 years ago

Hello Steemians,

Today I am going to talk about our Euro travel to Rome, and show you some photos I took there. Rome is an incredible city filled with iconic architecture, deep history, hidden streets and beautiful light. The entire city is a must see with locations begging to be toured and you can spend hours strolling the streets with gelato in hand. Trainers are a must though because the cobblestone ruins your feet!

I hope that you enjoy part one of Rome :)

Seeing the Colosseum was a bucket list item and I'm thrilled we were able to check it off! The history behind it and the architecture of the structure is amazing.

I suggest you to take double ticket for Colosseum and Forum. You should take tickets from Forum because queue is smaller. This combination ticket cost 24 euro. You must visit it when you are in Rome!

The Roman Forum is a rectangular forum surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome. It has been called the most celebrated meeting place in the world.

It is located in the small valley between the Palatine and Capitoline Hills and right next to the Colosseum. My tour was part of a tour I arranged of the Colosseum and it was worth every penny. I do suggest you have a guided tour with head sets to learn all the history.

The Temple of Caesar or Temple of Divus Iulius also known as Temple of the Deified Julius Caesar was my favorite. While most of it is in ruins, to know so many years ago he lived there and the history behind him is breathe taking.

I do suggest you bring an umbrella for those hot days as there is little to no cover from the sun and a bottle of watter

The Trevi fountain is one of the last great baroque monuments built in the city, built between 1732 and 1762.

In the 17th century Bernini was called in and his plan was to make a piazza but Pope Urban VIII Barberini who hired him died and the plans were abandoned.

The name comes from trivium – the meeting of three streets – in this case where the Aqua Virgo brought water to ancient Rome.

It is tradition that if you throw a coin into the fountain, you will one day return to Rome. You are supposed to do this with your back to the fountain, though it is still pretty unlikely that you could miss.
