Want to get to know the pearl of Rhodos?

Your welcome!

Everyone you are going to ask, where to go and what to see on the Rhodos island, will give you the same answer: Lindos! Now, I know why.

Taking the bus from Faliraki, we drove about 40 min down to Lindos. All busses arrived at one platform above the center of the city. That's why all the tourist first had to walk down a narrow road on which a lot of cars where driving. And driving along small streets is the specialty of Greece people. Along the road was a big traffic jam consisting mainly of taxi cars. I was glad that we took the advise of a native and came by the bus and walked down. The walk took maybe around 5 minutes, not longer.
Arriving at a second platform we noticed that by the beginning of the center, there are no cars allowed anymore. That was perfect, because there were already a lot of people, including cars it would be too much!

Here you can see the view from the platform before entering into the heart of the city:

The first thing you will notice when entering the narrow streets of the city are the small shops everywhere along the road. From souvenirs to clothes there is everything you can buy. I personally love to buy the small magnets for my parents. They love to post them on their fridge!

But back to the roads! Here some impressions:

Lindos is in first place famous for it's beautiful beaches, the white houses around the medieval castle and the acropolis of Lindos. The castle lies within the acropolis on the top of the hill.

You can find the castle by walking in the approximate direction. The street will get steeper and stony grounded. So wear comfortable, closed shoes!

Also you have to climb a lot of stairs, therefore it would be wise to visit the acropolis early in the morning or later in the evening otherwise it will be too hot and you can easily get sun burned. But be aware of the opening hours! That was our main problem when we got to the top...

On our way we met one cute cat, which ignored us totally even if we came close to it.

Still on our way up ...

Let me take a rest ^^
Oh and by the way, the drink in my hand is a freshly squeezed pomegranate juice - very tasty :D

So when we finally arrived at the walls of the castle...

... it was already closed^^
We didn't know anything about the opening hours and that was our bad. Our only concern at the moment of planning the trip was the avoidance of the midday heat. Next time we will be wiser and I hope this won't happen to you guys! I really wanted to see the acropolis and everything inside of the "Castle of the Knights of St. John". One reason more to visit Rhodos again^^

Anyway we had a great view from there and it was still worth the climbing!

The way back down was a bit difficult because it got darker and the path was hard to identify. But every one got back to the city safely :D

Of course every one was hungry and since it was our penultimate evening we decided to eat something special and don't think about the price. Let me present you the restaurant "Odyssia". It is located pretty much in the center. The ambient is really cozy and everywhere are lovely flowers placed. When you enter there will be a waiter already waiting for you to show a possible place to sit. Every one who works there is super friendly and attentive! Therefore you feel really respected besides the fact that we all were only students with a limited amount of money.
We decided to sit on the roof because of the beautiful view at night. Everywhere you could see lights! (Afterwards I regretted it for not taking a jacket with me, the wind was pretty cold!)

View from the rooftop:

But let me tell you something about the dishes we ordered.
As an entry we decided to take some Calamari and an interesting cheesecake with tomatoes as topping.

The Calamari tasted delicious just as the cheesecake. Honestly I didn't like the taste of the cheesecake at the beginning but I got used to it and even wanted some more in the end! The Calamari were perfectly fried and didn't had to much oil on their crust. I hate it when fried dishes is tasting like the frying oil.

Next every one ordered for the main dish something different for themselves:

A sea bass filet for me:

cooked chicken in sauce with fried onions on top:

A mushroom risotto:

And something very similar to a spanish paella with prawns:

Everyone of us was on the same mind: the meal was totally worth the price!!!
We paid around 15 Euros per person. It depended on the dish of course. Everything together we paid maybe 100 Euros. For a student it is quite a lot but every now and then I can treat myself :D

At the end they treat one with a nice glas of ice cream (for free of course ^^):

I only can recommend to try it out once! You won't be disappointed (I hope!).

To get back to Faliraki we had to take a cab. It was about 5 Euros per Person. We got back really fast and I fell asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow... It was a really nice day!

Until next time stay fit! :D
