Monument in Odessa

From the moment of its Foundation Odessa national Maritime University remains the only one in its calling, appointment, organizational structure, multi-difficult and glorious history, which is created for decades by its teachers and graduates. Our higher education institution is known today in Ukraine and abroad.

However, despite the age, which is insignificant in comparison with the well-known national universities, OIIVT-onmu rightfully takes the first place in the ranks of the founders of engineering and marine education. Looking for a long period of the past, we present a brief outline of the main historical stages, passed by a team of several generations of scientists and employees of the INSTITUTE-onmu — people who glorified our institution, identifying themselves with him.

The monument was built at the expense of students, employees and graduates of the University. The intention of the sculptor completed his graduate, war veteran V. A. Chernyakevich prematurely defended the diploma project and past volunteer for the front. Then in 1977 another graduate of the University, a war veteran, developed a drawing, and then made and installed personally on the obelisk the order of the great Patriotic war.

On one side of the Foundation of the monument there are three marble boards with the names of the dead staff and students, a total of 31 names. If you look at the names of those who did not return from the battlefield to the Great Patriotic war, the places of their death were Budapest, Drohobych, Kerch, Leningrad, Novorossiysk, Riga, Stalingrad, Poland, as well as the Kursk and the place of the Kerch-Feodosia operation.
