A place where people can fly. Klementyev's Mount, Crimea 📷
Six years ago I was on Klementyev's Mount, near Koktebel, in the Crimea. This is a special place: there is always a strong wind. The rising streams attract hang-gliders, parachutists, and everyone who likes to fly. For 95 years, this mountain has been chosen by hang-gliders from all corners of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus.
I myself, unfortunately, do not fly on a hang glider. But I would like to try!)

Ridge Uzun-Sirt or Klementev mountain is located in 13km from Feodosia, in the north of Koktebel. The long Range (as translated name of the mountain with the Turkish) stretches for 8 km from north of Koktebel, and the highest point is 268 m. The mountain has unique aerodynamic properties -. On it at the northern and southern winds are formed upward in the air flow, and thusnon-powered aircrafts can soar for a long-term time over the mountain. It is the only mountain with such a property in the Russian Federation and second in the world (another mountain called Harris Hill which is in the US).Pathfinder unique property was the famous aviator, conqueror of the most insidious aerobatics - "spin", the grandson of the artist IK Aivazovsky, Konstantin Artseulov later brought here by his supporters - pilots with gliders.
The effect of updrafts caused the birth of gliding in 1923. Over the years, the mountain was the beginning of the way of the future Soviet famous constructirs D. Antonov, A. Yakovlev, S. Ilyushin, the constructor of spacecrafts, S. Korolev. And since then, Uzun-Sirt attracts the attention of all lovers of flight. At any time of the year at Uzun-Sirt can be seen hovering aircraft.
From 1923 to 1977, there was a Flight Glider School (VLPSH), which was later reorganized into the "Koktebel" Center of gliding from 1977 to 1992.
In 1924, Uzun-Sirt became known as Mount Klementeva - during his 23th flight Peter Klement'ev crashed here .
Half a century after on September 9, 1973 at the forefront of the mountain there was set Klementev winged monument. Seven-meter pedestal, studded silver duralumin, was crowned all-metal glider record A-13. It was a kind gift Antonovites favorite Mountain. In 2003, a monument was reconstructed, instead of the glider on a pedestal placed a lighter model, the ability to resist the winds.The model glider as a weather vane is rotated according to the direction of the wind.
Today, on the mountain to Center for gliding "Koktebel" Paragliding Club "Breeze" (open from April 1 to November 1), the Museum of gliding, hang gliding club cafe Republican Club "Jonathan Livingston".
