Khokhloma is an old Russian folk craft.

Khokhloma is an old Russian folk craft, born in the 17th century in the village of Khokhloma.
The ancient Russian art of Khokhloma painting is world famous.
In the last century, the Khokhloma spoons and bowls were the property of everyday peasant households.
As a child, when I rested with my aunt in the village, I liked to eat from such spoons. Believe me that eating soup with these spoons, the soup is much more delicious!

Khokhloma painting is a unique phenomenon of the national culture of Russian folk art.
There is always a golden color in the painting.
To get the effect of gold on a tree is quite difficult.
The Khokhloma "gold" is the product of the ingenuity of Russian artisans.
In order to prepare the product for the Khokhla painting, at first, rough pieces of wood are made. Then, on a lathe or milling machine, the workpiece is given the desired shape.
Then dried, then ground with liquid purified clay.
the product is dried for 7-8 hours and must be manually covered with several layers of drying oil (linseed oil).

rom the Internet:
The master dips a special tampon made of sheep or calf skin turned inside out into a bowl with varnish, and then quickly rubs it into the surface of the product, turning it so that the varnish is distributed evenly. This operation is very responsible. The quality of wooden utensils and the strength of the painting will depend on it in the future. During the day, the product is covered with linseed 3-4 times. The last layer is dried to "a little tack-free" - when the linseed oil slightly sticks to the finger, no longer smearing it. The next stage is “tinning”, that is, rubbing aluminum powder into the surface of the product. It is also performed manually by a sheep skin swab. After the tinning, the objects acquire a beautiful white-mirror shine and are ready for painting.

Painted products are coated with a special lacquer 4-5 times (with intermediate drying after each layer) and, finally, quenched for 3-4 hours in a furnace at a temperature of + 150 ... +160 ° C until a golden-colored oil-lacquer film is formed. So it turns out the famous "Golden Khokhloma."
