This building on the high Bank attracts the eyes of people from everywhere. You can see it from far away, wherever you look.
This Pavilion for the sliding down the mountain on special carriages. This pavilion is only a part of the once huge entertainment facility for summer skiing from the mountains, which served as a prototype of the ice mountains created in Russia for Shrovetide festivities.
Oranienbaum is a Russian royal residence, located on the Gulf of Finland west of St. Petersburg. The Palace ensemble and the city centre are UNESCO World Heritage Sites> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oranienbaum,_Russia
Date of construction of this pavilion: 1762-1774 Architect: Antonio Rinaldi. Initially, this complex consisted of a pavilion, descents and covered galleries-colonnades. Their length was 532 meters. The platform for the descent from the hill was located at an altitude of 20 meters. It was quite a complex engineering structure of that era.

On the layout we can see that these slides had one straight and three undulating wooden descents from the mountain. Their height consistently decreased and was overcome due to inertia. Several carved gilded carriages in the form of "triumphal chariots, gondolas and saddled animals"(as described in archival documents of the time) were specially designed for these entertainments. Separate tracks were designed to lift the strollers back up.
These activities with such a fun ride from the mountain continued until 1801. Then the mountain began to slowly collapse. In 1813, the colonnades collapsed and in the late 1850s all the ruins were demolished.
Only this magnificent pavilion with a unique interior decoration has survived to this day. Now everything here is closed for restoration.
We visited this place last weekend to see the beautiful scenery before everything here will soon be covered with snow.
Of course, we will return here again and again, but now after the restoration work is over.

Thank you @hananali !
You're welcome @madlenfox
Wow the blue and white is so distinctive. Really beautiful. And the original slides are so impressive. Hard to believe is was built in the 1700's
This combination of colors is found in other residences of the Royal family. They are also nearby. The date of construction is really surprising, but most of our magnificent palaces were built by the best architects in Europe. Therefore, it is possible to maintain for many years. The Baroque style was relevant in the architecture of that era. Thanks for visiting, @steven-patrick
