The Misti Volcano is located in the region of Arequipa department of the same name, considered one of the ten volcanoes currently active in the Andes mountain range.
It is located in the Rio Chili Valley at 2400 meters above sea level. It is one of the important symbols of the city of Arequipa which is also the second most important city in Peru, its buildings are mostly made of white ash (volcanic lava) that began to be used in the Colonial era. The last time that the Misti Volcano showed important activity and with fumaroles was in 1870.

It has an almost perfect cone that rises up to 5822 m.s.n.m. and it is accompanied by two Chachani volcanoes (6075 m.s.) and Pichu pichu (5669 m.s.).

According to geologists, the Misti is an active volcano with fumaroles visible from the city. Despite its apparent inactivity, it is considered a great danger by experts. In the event of an explosion, lava, hot gases and ashes would rush towards the city.
In recent years it is apparently inactive, there are other volcanoes of the same western chain as sabancaya and ubinas these are active for several years.
