It's Always Something When Full Time RVing!

in #travel6 years ago

We are getting married here in Canada in just two weeks and I am paying for it all myself and we are going to just make it by the skin of our teeth so there is no room for error. But of course that isn't how life works and it is always throwing us curve balls and testing our patience and yesterday was no different. We had been at the previous campground for three weeks and were getting ready to move to the next one that was just an hour away. I had just finished lifting up the back stabilizers and @haileyscomet started to lift the front legs on the fifth wheel so we could attach it onto the truck and one of the two front legs broke! Putting all of the weight on one leg and putting the trailer at risk of tipping over, which could have really hurt her if not worse.

As soon as I realized what happened I rushed to put the back stabilizers down so it would have more support and I told Hailey to go to the front for help while I called for help, while I was on the phone with a service guy, our neighbor who had just moved in the day before rushed over to help. It's funny because we were annoyed with the people for camping so close to us and being so much in our space even though just for one night and he wound up being an amazing and helpful person I am so glad had invaded our space! A nice little life reminder there. But back to the story, what we basically had to do was use blocks and jacks to lift the broken side as the working side went up.

So I pulled out my floor jack and it was able to hold the weight where it was but it could not go any higher to lift it high enough to be able to connect to the truck. We then had to lower it back down putting all the weight back on the one leg which was not ideal, and had to stack a good amount of wood, used huge blocks between the jack and the frame and used a heavy duty, giant floor jack that the park management guy let us use to lift it high enough. It was so awesome so have so much help in our time of need, as I am not sure we could have done that at all ourselves!

We got it onto the truck, but that was just one problem. Now we needed the money to pay for the fix and we need a place to fix this ASAP as we now our stuck with our trailer connected to us. All of the places in town were booked till August and we were feeling helpless, not to mention concerned we could even fit at the new campground. So we called ahead and told them the situation and they said they were booked but would try and move us to a new spot to fit us. They were able to move us so we felt good until we made it here and saw how tight of a fit it would be. We tried once and failed getting it in, as it is a very difficult angle to get into with our truck bed being so long. But after driving around the park, and looking at all the spots we could fit in but weren't allowed to and them reassuring us they were booked, we made one more attempt and luckily made it in barely!

We then called around and found a place in the town we will be in next Friday for a week that said they could fix it and work us in. We are still waiting to hear back but it looks good, though we will be stuck to the trailer until then. And my father, mother, and Hailey's grandma offered to help us pay for the fix, so things are looking up! We have an amazing support group and we are so grateful for them stepping us in our time of need! We are truly blessed, even in our struggle! Stay tuned for updates!

Good luck with the marriage and congratulations in advance :)

Good luck with the repairs and a happy wedding to you both!

Living in an RV/trailer is great but there always seems to be something! Same can be said for a brick and mortar home though! Happy to hear you have a fix in the works!
