Belize: Caye Caulker and Isla Bonita - two Caribbean pearls

On May 19, 2017 we leave the island of Cuba with a new exciting destination: the BELIZE

Landing in Cancun take a bus that will take us directly to Belize City and here ... begins a new adventure!

Let's take a short break in Playa del Carmen in Mexico for a night, then start off the next day with the pulman that with 7 hours of travel will take us to Belize City.

Arriving at Belize City bus station we walk on foot in search of our hostel we had previously booked this tour.

Moved from the center of the country, we immediately caught the state of poverty and danger, but as day we walked unattractive to our location.

Arriving at the location, I literally got scared !! It looked like a prison ..

A wall outlined the hostel with a high barbed wire that did not mean anything good.

Entering the owner recommends us not to leave after 19:00.

Panic hurts here !! Already the center was not that great, but even in hostel we would not know what to do.

Of course, the fear of getting out was just as high! The alarm for our security was remembered every moment.

So we decide to stay 1 night in the city center and the next morning take boarding for the coral islands: the most famous are Caye Caulker and Ambergris Caye (Isla Bonita)
 
 

 
 
We decide to start by Caye Caulker: Go slow island!

From a geographic point of view we are in the Caribbean Sea, in an islet just 8 kilometers long and 1.6 miles wide.
 
In Caye Caulker, the phrase we hear repeatedly repeating and that is printed in every corner is: "Go Slow".

It goes flat, slows down, breathes ... by supporting the only rhythms that count, those of nature

It is a Caribbean atoll, located just a short distance from the 300km of coral reef facing Belize.

BLUE HOLE

 
Our exciting flight to the Blue Hole, a great seaside valley on the Belize coast, in the Caribbean Sea, will take you to the heart.

There is a huge blue hole in the center of the Caribbean Sea, a small atoll surrounded by a beautiful coral reef is just one of the Unesco World Heritage Sites.

The Great Blue Hole has a diameter of 300 mt for 124 mt of depth and formed during glaciations between 150,000 and 15,000 years ago.

In very much this Blue Hole triggers a few fears, fueled by the presence of many types of sharks that seem to be guarding at the entrance to the Blue Hole.

On May 31, 2017, from an island where "Go SLOW" was its motto ... we jump for the "Isla Bonita" made famous by the singer Madonna.

Arriving at Isla Bonita the first feeling was that it was all for us.
 
 

 
 
Last night I dreamt for San Pedro .. and so I sang this song to loop until I set foot on Isla Bonita
 
 

 
 
San Pedro is the largest center of Ambergris Caye, the coral island off the coast of Belize that focuses on the greatest tourist flow
 
 
There are no cars here, the streets are white and you move with the golf carts
 
 

 
 
San Pedro, is a classic postcard village from the Caribbean with the inevitable coconut palm trees taller than the small, lively wooden houses lined up in the waterfront.

On June 3, 2017 we leave Isla Bonita, we arrive in Belize City and immediately take a bus that will take us to San Ignazio.
 
In San Ignazio there is not much to do. So we only stop for the night and the next morning we take a taxi that will accompany us to the border to Guatemala and then a bus.
 
 

 
 
On June 3 2017 then our journey continues. Who knows if the "Guatemaltech" neighbors want it ..
