A travel blogger receives death wishes after posting on social media

I ran across an article that grabbed my attention. Most of us know we must respect local customs, wherever we travel. This is even more important with the advent of the Internet and social media.

Being a member of social media helps you know where to travel, weather and events. One downside it also holds each of us accountable for our actions.

In the case of Nils Travel with close to 50K Instagram followers, this is evident. He is paying the price for showing disrespect in the ancient city of Pompeii. What is his mistake? He sat down and went so far as to post a photo of this on social media. Not only is sitting down in the ruins disrespectful, it is forbidden.

Now he is receiving death threats; people even reported him to authorities. This is all according to the story I read in Business Insider.

There are a lot of travelers in Steemit.
I hope this post will help be a good reminder.

The moral of this story: When traveling be careful what you do; be even more careful what you post in social media; traveling or not.
My question is why do people have to always threaten to kill other people?

Thanks for reading.

That's crazy. Seems like an honest enough mistake. I wonder if there are signs posted saying "No Sitting Allowed"

It is important to observe traditional customs, there are just so many. My friend was in Southeast Asia and apparently sitting with your feet up and exposing the soles of your feet is extremely rude. He always respected the custom but said many other people didn't and it would really upset the locals.

It's important to respect the customs of others when visiting their lands.

It is crazy that people threaten your life. Isn't that crossing the line too? haha
Someone told me the okay symbol we do with our fingers in America means you are calling someone an A**hole in other countries. I don't know if that's true but now I am worried to make that symbol. lol

It is a sad state of current mentality that people feel death threats are justified, however that said it is also important to be aware of the culture when one travels

and as you said the OK sign we use here is offensive in some countries I have been to

glad you know about it...yes, so much to remember.

@rebeccabe it truly is, but from my travels well worth it and if you respect the culture you get to see so much more

Just a simple answer.
I agree with you to be careful what you do and what time post online. But the most important thing is that he didn't knew it was forbidden so he must be forgiven.

I agree with you 100%

That's mental!! Who would have thought of such a bizarre tradition in Italy? Anyway, I have found that if somebody wants to kill you, they very rarely advertise it on the internet first, death threats though unpleasant, are meaningless.

Here in the states we have found that often the predators do post on social media. I think I know what you are saying if your brother-in-law or a hired killer someone like that has plans on killing you they will take you out secretly.

Yeah exactly, no one wants to go to prison for murder; however with that being said, I can fully appreciate how distressing it must be for this poor guy, all he did was sit down, it's not like he urinated on a grave or something :-(

......Great post miss lady.....

It is so important to know the customs.and respect the place you are visiting.

Ignorance is never an excuse fod disrespsct.

Death threats. I am totallty raken back by that.

Me too.. we all have to be careful. Think how scary it would feel to receive death threats. Like @wa2qr says if he did not know any better he should be forgiven.
