Explore with me #1: Budapest Hungary

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

hi guys...

today i want to write a little bit about budapest (hungary). my father was born and raised in budapest, therefore, the hungarian culture and the language has always had a special place in my heart. i mean, how could it not be - look at the stunning parliament:

the danube is europe's second largest river. it flows through many cities - through budapest as well. such a lovely romantic city. as you walk along the danube you see 12 bridges. bridges that are unique and so different from each other. in this next picture you can see the elisabeth bridge in the background, that connects buda and the gellert hill:

when you're at the elisabeth bridge, you are just a few meters from food-heaven. the biggest and most beautiful market hall. omg... guys, you can not imagine how fantastic this place is. you enter a world full of fruits, vegetables, fish, pastries, candies, meat, spices... etc. the hungarian food culture contains a lot of onion, garlic, pepper and potato. just think about the famous goulash. hmmm... i'm getting hungry right know :)

when you stand there at the enterance you don't know where to look first. all those people, offerings and smells. the market offers a huge variety of stalls on three floors. you get amazed by the architecture and impressions you get instantly. now is the time to mention, that the market hall was designed by the same architect as the eiffel tower. pretty impressive, huh?

now you ask yourself: what can i not miss trying? there are four things i always eat when i'm in budapest. if i don't eat those four things i get depressed. lol. therefore, let me help you:

  • goulash (self-explaining)
  • langós (a deep fried flatbread. it is eaten fresh and warm, topped      with sour cream and grated cheese, or ham, or sausages, or most      frequently, without toppings, just rubbed with garlic, or doused with      garlic water)
  • sajtos pogácsa (hungarian cheese puffs or cheese biscuits)
  • francia krémes (mostly out of vanilla pudding - see below

next i have some more picture for you to see:

and a picture from the parliament at night:

however, this year i took my lovely husband to budapest on the 20th of august. it's the national holiday for the hungarians. the program throughout the day is amazing. but what amazes me every single time is the stunning firework they prepare for the evening. it lasts for more than 20 minutes. that's crazy! the firework at new year's eve isn't as spectacular as on the national holiday. so if you're planing on visiting hungary, try to experience this special day with the hungarian folk.

budapest has so much to offer, but i hope you guys liked my little impression of this beautiful city. has somebody else been there as well?

have a great weekend! :)
