New York is called by many nicknames. Its “city that never sleeps”, “concrete jungle where dreams are made of”, but probably most known nickname is “The Big Apple”. There are several theories where this nickname came from, but the most likely version is from the sports writer John J. Fitz Gerald, who wrote for The Morning Telegraph and who was first who called New York “The Big Apple” in 1920.
