RE: Travel Tips for Backpacking in India

in #travel5 years ago

hi @summitdecent
thank you for your valuable advice! one of the next trips we would like to make is right in India !! It is really true that we in the West often ruin our holidays by staying in bed due to some infection we take while eating or drinking badly. but it's so hard to resist sometimes! the thing that they have always taught me is that the most important thing is that the food is always cooked and never raw. Do you think it's enough as a guarantee? and in case you happen what do you suggest to do? is there any particularly useful medication? or go directly to the hospital?
Congratulations and thank you for sharing with us

Hi mate, thanks for contacting. Regarding food I cannot mention about meat and fish as I do not eat either when travelling in India. I would, however, make sure of three things if you do decide to eat them over there:

  1. Check to see if you can see where the meat/fish is stored - as mentioned in the post many people do not have a fridge so be wary of any place you cannot see where it is stored, or where the meat has been sitting out.

  2. Check to see if you can see where it is being prepared - If you cannot see where it is being cooked, and who is cooking, I would also avoid it.

  3. Ensure it is cooked right the way through - As you know, raw meat n fish will cause you upset and people in India are able to handle chicken and meat cooked to a lower temp than we are in the west.

Nothing will guarantee your safety and health other than being vigilant and consistent, one slight lack of attention is enough to make you bed ridden. Take some travel antibiotics although they will be a lot cheaper in India and are available all over the country. I would advise taking water purification tablets. These save you a lot of money, stop the need from using loads of single use plastic and will just make your life easier when in your room and want to brush your teeth or just have some water. They taste a bit like swimming pool water but they work.
