The castle of Eger
The most famous Hungarian castle. The castle is popular thanks to the novel by Géza Gárdonyi, the Stars of Eger. There are many exhibitions and programs in the castle.
The seat of the Eger bishopric, was located on the castle hill for 500 years. After the Mongol invasion, a castle was built to protect the bishopric. It has been rebuilt and expanded several times.
In the middle of the castle garden you can see the remains of the once large, Romanesque and Gothic-style bishop's cathedral.

Szép hely, az már igaz.
Ilyenkor gondolkodik el az ember, hogy vajon azért híres-e, mert Gárdonyi megírta az Egri csillagokat? Vagy azért, mert rengeteget költöttek a felújítására és az állagmegóvásra? Vagy azért költöttek, mert Gárdonyi megírta a regényét, és ezért híres lett a vár?
Az élet nagy kérdései :)
Ez a kérdés bennem is felmerült, mikor most a várról olvastam. Minket anno általános iskolás korunkban a regény és a történelem miatt vittek el oda kirándulni. Most valószínűleg nem csak a regény miatt, hanem a jó üzleti lehetőségek miatt is támogatják. Tény, hogy a sok kiállítással és bemutatókkal, szinte az egész napot el lehet tölteni ott, és akkor még a város többi részét nem is látta az ember.
