Sun and Salad. There isn't anything better

Throughout the world there are iconic structures, plants and animals. Weather you travel to Egypt to see the pyramids, the Amazon to visit the rainforest or Sapa in Vietnam these places conjure up a wealth of feeling and memories.

For me diving the kelp forests in the sun of the Pacific Northwest is truly iconic for me.

Kelp grows all around the world in temperate water but along the coastlines of British Columbia and further south in California it is truly a magical experience descending under the canopy of these underwater forests.

Bull kelp is an annual seaweed—meaning it grows from a spore to maturity within a single year. It grows quickly, sometimes 25 cm (10 in.) in one day. Bull kelp reproduces by spores in spore patches (sori), which are heavy enough to fall to the ocean floor. This ensures that spores settle close to parent plants and on suitable substrate. Storms wash spent bull kelp onto beaches where the plants dry and turn brown. These stranded pieces of kelp have the appearance of bull whips, giving this kelp its common name.

Diving through kelp in the sun is to me truly iconic and something that should be on everyones bucket list.
