On the Roof of St. Isaac's Cathedral
In the above photo we are 100m from the ground, and being November, it was absolutely freezing! I apologise to Victoria for my grumpiness this day. St. Isaac's Cathedral is the largest orthodox basilica and the fourth largest cathedral in the world. It is dedicated to Saint Isaac of Dalmatia, the patron saint of Peter the Great, who was been born on the feast day. Unlike most of Russia's onion dome churches, St. Isaac's is an example of late classicism with a number of directions such as Renaissance and Byzantine. It is unique from a Russian architectural standpoint and this makes it a dominant feature of the city. Shortly before we climbed the roof, I got to witness an orthodox service for the first time.
