An Introduction to Baek Wun Dong Garden in Gang Jin, the one of the most representative garden in Korea

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Each country had its own representative traditional garden.
In East Asia, Japanese and Chinese Gardens also have their characteristic own gardens.
Japanese gardens seemed to be well known for their deliberate composition.
And Chinese gardens were famous for their lucrative and splendid size.

Unlike those gardens, Korean traditional gardens were very nature friendly.
In my opinion, they were deeply influenced by Taoism in building gardens in Korea

One characteristic I found out was the boundary having no boundary.

It was a cold winter day when I dropped by Baek Wun Dong garden located in Gang Jin where is the southwestern area in Korean peninsular and was well known for the place of political exile.

In recent days, this garden was designated for the national monument for its historical meaning.
This garden was the cultural center for the exiled scholars in Choson dynasty.

The road to the garden was covered with the various trees.

As passing through the trees, there was a stream with the rocks.
It looked like very natural, but I heard this composition was carefully calculated for expressing natural Nature.

After several minutes of walking, I finally got to arrived at the garden.
There was a wall. And there was an area where the wall was not built.
It must be the gate without any gate.

I thought this wall was just a boundary to divide here and there not to protect this garden from something.

Very interesting ... in fact every culture has its garden (Italian garden, English garden ..) .I must say that, thanks to you, I have known elements of Korean culture that for me was totally unknown. I am sorry to be forced to abandon this platform.....Thanks for everything!

@slowwalker,
Personally I like to visit such places! I have a memory in my country a rural area with ruins of our ancients! It's pretty similar to the scenery that you photography! Feel calm when I remember that place! Great photography and thanks for reminding me my old memories!

Cheers~

Obviously it was the gates without any gates that caught my fancy, I mean it's surprising, I mean it's seems as if this gate to the garden was deliberatly left unbuilt and my goodness the path covered by trees looks more than amazing, let me ask you, the birds must've sang sweetly right? Because it's so amazing down there, awesome shots by you

This garden is really amazing!

It's a great place to enjoy the beauty of nature. Thank you so much for showing us the beauty of this beautiful nature. My lovely friend @slowwalker

@slowwalker, Actually Korean gardens most naturalize than other country gardens. So peoples can meditate easily and control mindset better. Road of the gardens seemed different kind of trees. Those rocks perfect to take rest or meditation. Completely grand visualization to our eyes.

beautiful garden sir.
is so wonderful view sir @slowwalker

What you mean by a boundary without a boundary ... a wall is always a boundray there to divide

You are right every even small city has its garden or park, me and my hubby always love to explore them. I can remember the time when our son was little we spend every weekend traveling in nearest natural parks and botanic gardens. I noticed that brings piece in my soul and to be there with children that is the best place to teach therm what is hte nature, trees, insects, birds and just a nature. We are lucky people living this day and having the great opportunity to have all that around us, live and we have to do our best to leave it like that for our grandchildren and their further generations.

Looking at your photographs and if I would be there I definitely would be trying to walk on stones, I love to do it and if there is a stream that makes it even interesting :)
