Tragically, some airport employees are rogue and make a living robbing people of checked items. Particularly, glasses, sneakers, and photo equipment should never be checked. It'd be better to FED EX items if absolutely necessary.

Great post! The carry on and an overhead piece of luggage is all one really needs when they learn how to pack.
