Want to have your post on the map too?

  • Go to Steemitworldmap
  • Click the code slider at the bottom
  • Click on the map where your post should be (zoom in if needed)
  • Copy and paste the generated code in your post
  • Congrats, your post is now on the map!
Sort:
  • The site only somewhat works in Chrome. In Firefox f.e. all I can see is whole world map - no post indicators and no code slider at the bottom; the links you provided don't work either in FF (does not work at all in IE - ends with error - and when I tried TorBrowser I was blocked by some WebNinja).
  • Do I need to use tag 'steemitworldmap'?
  • Is there a way to hide the geotag so it is not visible in the text of the post? It looks strange and out of place...

Hi @miosha, I'm a curator for Steemitworldmap.

  • Since we have nearly 30k pins on the map, sometimes it might take a little while for it to load everything and the slider at the bottom. Re the links that don't work, can you please let me know specifically which one? I'll take a look at it.
  • you don't need to us the steemitworldmap tag as we will pick up all the posts that are pinned to the map
  • if you leave an extra line before and after the code in your draft, it won't show up in the post.
  • None of the links worked since the site itself doesn't work. I think I know why though. It is a result of the combination of my way of using browser (I don't use any mode but incognito), privacy settings, Same Origin Policy, tracking protection built into FF and possibly some bugs on the site. The console shows couple of scripts blocked (even though I've allowed all scripts in NoScript), most seem to be ad related, except error on markerclusterer.js which entails ReferenceError: MarkerClusterer is not defined and Geo location is not working.
  • I think I'll keep adding the tag anyway unless I run over the limit
  • thank you, it worked; you should consider adding such information to bot message ("Copy and paste the generated code in your post - add empty lines on both sides to make the code hidden") and/or to the code that is copied from the site

Hey dev answer here, the site was developed with chrome in mind as it's the most used browser at the moment!

I had other people that had issues using Firefox though, as well with strict settings like yours as you said it's likely due to you strict settings.

We don't run any ads, but it might be the google analytics scripts that are being blocked!

The map currently automatically asks for a location (so you can zoom and see what is around you)!

Markerclusterer is necessary and a library I use so that you don't see thousands of pin, but rather a big dot with the number of posts in there!

Bitninja, is a safety measure by the hosting provider, just solving the captcha should allow access though!

Hope that answered your questions some!

Is it possible to add multiple geolocations in the same post? Because it does not seem so. I can add their code, but only last one shows up on the map later.

This is not possible and will not be added, as it could cause issues with people abusing it on one hand, and the map filling up with the same posts multiple times, which might give a bad browsing experience!

It seems natural to use multiple geotags in post that describes many places (f.e. in https://steemit.com/travel/@miosha/land-of-extinct-volcanoes-part-7-16-milek-quarry-cf4561ff483f8est I wanted to pin start of official trail around the mountain as well as shortcut leading directly to the quarry).
I don't see how it prevents abuse either, if one could just make multiple posts composed of geotag + link to main post, but ok.
