Feeding the Swamp Monkeys

The sea monkeys of Klong Kone (Mud Canals) Mangrove Forests in Samut Songkhram, Thailand have had a run of bad luck. There was a tourist boom in the fishing and farming city and they became reliant on pet feeding. This is the major problem of feeding wild animals because you're really hurting them in the long run. The locals deeply love and respect the sea monkeys and this respect is shown by the Sea Monkey Shrine on the cover of this post. The sea monkeys have been there living peacefully with the locals for hundreds of years but since they became reliant on food from tourism, they must find other means when Thailand goes through the annual tourist low season. Sea monkeys like all monkeys are very intelligent.

One of those means is taking farmed cockles so farm owners raise dogs to scare away the sea monkeys. The problem isn't easily fixed and I noticed the price of cockle skyrocket. The price isn't just the sea monkeys but a number of problems but they are a big part. We found a great resort and tour to see for ourselves the problems. I always love taking my grandbabies, nieces & nephews on family excursions so I wanted to check out the grounds before bringing them.

We had an incredible ride on a Thai long boat through the Klong Kone Mangroves Forest. We glided across the water until we finally found our sea monkey friends. We threw them the beets we had and I sure wish I had brought much more. Locals and Thais nationally come to visit during the low season to help the sea monkeys survive until the professionals can figure a way to fix the problem. Until then, I will keep going back and taking the kids with me to help the sea monkeys survive every tourist low season.
