Exploring South Australia - Yorke Peninsula

On the first weekend of this new year, I went on a trip down the Yorke Peninsula - somewhere I’ve never been before.

Our destination was Chinamans Hat Island, a small island just off Marion Bay. It’s a 3 and a half hour drive from us, so it was like a short road trip! We stopped off at a mini gas station on the way, which was oddly surreal. In the middle of nowhere just a tiny station with one pump that looked straight out of a zombie apocalypse movie (super rundown). Some guy turned up in his car just as we were about to leave and he had no tire - it was ripped to shreds.

... I wonder what happened to it

We’d almost reached the bottom of the peninsula when we discovered somewhere called Edithburgh. There was an in-ocean pool and there was a ghost town feel to it all, even though there were plenty of people around. There were practically no other cars to be seen and everything was so quiet.

We swam around in the pool for a little bit before we went out into the ocean. We ended up swimming out to a little floating island that was anchored to the bottom. Trying to balance on it was impossible and I fell in a couple of times! The swim there was terrifying, I’ve never swum in such deep water that’s so choppy as well (it was a very windy day).
We finally set off again though, and headed to Marion Bay. The view when we got into the foresty part of the peninsula was gorgeous, and being able to see so much ocean from the land was amazing.

The beach was amazing. The sand was so untouched and it was so clean there. You could see the island from the beach and it was such a nice place to relax.

The trip back was amazing as well.
We went straight back up to Port Wakefield but stopped a few times on the way to look at the stars if there were no street lights around. You could see so many stars and even the galaxy like colours that you see in those amazing photos or paintings. Unfortunately My phone was flat by now so I couldn’t take anymore photos.

We stopped at a 24/7 gas station in Port Wakefield at about midnight, and stopped for food. It was probably one of my favourite parts of the trip! We were covered in sand, barefoot and salt all in our hair. It was the only place in the little town that was lit up and everything kind of glowed (I think I was pretty exhausted as well which added to the floatiness). I ended up having some chips and a hot chocolate… it was all so calm and relaxing.
It was finally time to get home so we drove back down the highway and were back in no time. When we got in it was hot showers all round and straight to bed.

The next day we went out to torrens island. It wasn’t the cleanest place admittedly but the water was really warm!

Milo (the dog of the friends I was out with) came along with us too and seemed to have a blast!

Definitely one of my favourite weekends. This year has definitely been great so far, getting out there and doing big things is proving to be amazing.

SA has so many great places to visit. Im glad you enjoyed these!

You found a zombie apocalypse petrol station and you didn't do impromptu zombie apocalypse shots? XD One by itself out in the middle of nowhere is slightly random though, or perhaps not random, obviously there's a need for it to be there, did the people that run it live there as well?

Man that's one shredded tyre, did they not have spares or did they not notice it had popped :O

Nice scenery everywhere else, that beach!

The guy seemed clueless when I asked about what happened to the tire!! And the station was along a highway so there were no houses in sight. Definitely should've taken more photos though, next time I'll have to bring a charger! :)
