Balchik is located in the northeastern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, 40 km from Varna and 20 km from Kavarna .

Balchik is located on the beach in a temperate continental climate, the average temperature in July is 22 degrees and the temperature of the sea water in the summer reaches 24 degrees.

The city was founded 26 centuries ago by Greek colonists under the name Krowi. In the 6th century BC the city was named after the Greek god of wine and joy Dionysus - Dionysopolis.
