This is the third and the last part of my great Hamburg harbor tour. As I mentioned in the first part we first sailed downstream the river Elbe and thereby over the Hafenstraße and in the direction to the Köhlbrandbrücke. After that we sailed to the container terminals into the economic harbor and we saw that a big container ship from the Maersk concern was loaded on the pier.
In the third part of our tour we will sail back to the St. Pauli pier. On this way we will see a lot of sights too.
We leave the southern harbor basins at the same pitch as the Elbphilharmonic building and at this place on the river Elbe we have a fantastic view to the new Hamburg district Harbor city (in German: Hafen city). We see the Marco-Polo-Tower which looks like a mushroom. In this building Helene Fischer (a German singer and star) and Wladimir Klitschko (the former boxing champion) have their apartments. Our guide said that they live next door within the building.
We sail over the Elbphilharmonic building and over the traditional ship Cap San Diego with our barge.
On the other side of the river there are the two Stage theaters for the musicals “Das Wunder von Bern” and “The lion king” (Der König der Löwen). The musical “The lion king” is very successful in Hamburg and it is very difficult to get some tickets.
On the next picture we see the Elbe promenade and in the background the tower from the Galego restaurant.
We are on the way to the St. Pauli pier over the former training ship Rickmer Rickmers which is very famous within the Hamburg harbor area. In the background we see once again the Hamburg Michl.
From behind we are overtaken from a Mississippi steamboat which is powered through his paddle wheel. Yes there are also Mississippi steamboats on the Elbe. In the background there is once again the Michl.
At the end we have a very central and nice picture from the Michl.
The last picture shows us our barge taken from the advertising flyer with a funny Slogan from the shipping company.
