Motorcycle travel series by @velimir 'Zagorje' (Part #173)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

This room is dedicated to "Peasant Uprising", a story written by August Šenoa, who was inspired by a historical event that took place in 1573. We will never be quite sure as to what extent the story follows the historical facts. This is the map of the battle movements. The Croatian and Slovene commoners were planning to ransack and burn down all of the nice mansions from my previous post.

A scene put up in one of the mansion's rooms shows lightly dressed commoners, geared up with their simple weapons, facing the cold winter weather and armoured horsemen who marched out to wipe them out.

This literary work was heavily propagated by the socialist regime because it fully served their agenda during the last century. In the end of the story (spoiler coming up), the leader of the rebellion is crowned with a burning metal crown. Such a statement, eh? These are the weapons used at the time.

The bows and arrows are made from branches and not entirely finished. There was no time, apparently. The nobles had to be quickly attacked.

Same thing with the other weapons. Quickly put together from various tools. They look quite deadly, nonetheless.

I'm quite sure that any peasant of the time would have enough sanity to march in spring rather than cold winter. The weather conditions were a major factor of war in those days because battles were won or lost absolutely depending on physical factors.

To be continued...

Enjoy your day! :)

A burning metal crown... Ouch. Quite the statement!

it echoed through history, eh?
However, not sure the way they intended it to!

The sentence written here in the post " the leader of the rebellion is crowned with a burning metal crown " reminded me of a scene from GAME OF THRONES, i think from season1 or season 2 where the brother of khaleesi (i dont remember his name) was crowned with melted hot GOLD by KHAL DROGO ( the leader of of his horse rider army from ESSOS ).
Great post with good information, looking forward to the continued part brother @velimir .

Thank you so much for your greatness.

their weapons of war were quite novel for the time
I would not want to be in their way when they were near haha

they were also way stronger than we are today...

Of course the same environment that surrounded them made them that way.
On the other hand, we now look weaker since we do not have the kind of threats of the time

Great photo edits! Your photos look vintage and give off medieval vibes. Where is that room located? Seems interesting. :)

In that old Croatian mansion I visited. If you scroll down a few posts, you ll see it.

Nice primitive weapons haha wish I could have one here!! Can't imagine how they manage all as you say in winter.

Interesting post, quite ancient and medieval in outlook but serves to add flavour to our sense of ancient history. Thanks @velimir
